Abandoned Warehouse and the Chosen One- part 2

Read  Part 1  here.

“How are you feeling now?” asked  Victor after we reached our hostel.

I couldn’t think of anything else other than the rendezvous with the aliens. The box was full of computer peripherals. There was a capsule tugged safely in a corner. Some uncontrollable force made me take that capsule instantly. The next thing I knew, i had  a horrible pain in my head which knocked me off.

Soon, I was able to feel the machines around me. I could feel a connection with them. I could control them. Driving back home, I was using this ability. Right now, I was checking  everyone’s devices for traces of any info on those aliens.

I couldn’t find anything. I could feel a little restlessness  inside me. Was it because of my newly gained powers?

Joel switched on the television and the first words that we heard were-

‘Tech giant Dave Wilson brutally killed in a horrific blast while in his home. The cops haven’t ruled out foul play, but the prime causes might be faulty wiring and short circuit in the electrical wiring of the house.’

I was damn tired, and this news didn’t do me any good. I walked outside to get some fresh air; only to get knocked hard on the head.

When i woke up, i found myself lying in front of a big bulky person.

“So, you have the ability within you. Let me teach you something” He said, which was follow ed by 2 drones zeroing in towards me.

I closed my eyes, but still i could feel the mechanics  inside the drones. A graph like map filled my mind; and the time slowed down. I could hear a faint beating of a drum broken  by long  intervals in my mind. Everything was happening in slow-mo.

I controlled their receivers, swapped them up, shut their controllers out, u-turned them and made them charge towards the bulky guy.

The graph on my mental screen went off just when I wanted it to. The drum beat faded as well; returning to normal time speed.

To be continued.

Each Breath we take is a miracle in itself. To experience a miracle, we don’t need to walk on water or fly in air. The real miracle is with us- the breath we take. Each moment of our lives, we can feel the wonder of being alive.

How wondrous breath is. BREATH IS LIFE !

Pay attention, be aware of and feel the gratitude for each breath you take. This will clear your mind like a calm river.

Inhalation and exhalation of breath is breathing.

How amazing is the system which governs our breathing mechanism. It almost happens unconsciously without any effort. BUT we all know how important breathing is!

Technically, it is important as our cells constantly need new supply of oxygen to produce energy which is supplied through breathing only. Without oxygen, cell damage and cell death will occur.

This is the one threshold which divides between BEING and NON-BEING, between existing and non-existing.

The way we breathe effects a lot of our conditions-our health, our emotions, our immune systems and state of mind.

Have you noticed, how your breathing becomes fast and heavy when you are scared or highly stressed.

According to scientific research, our breathing pattern impacts our health in innumerable ways. Some are-

  • Shallow breathing leads to lower oxygen levels in the body, which results in increased inflammation, reduced immunity and higher anxiety. It can also impair brain function as brain needs more oxygen compared to other major organs.
  • Shortness of breath and heart diseases are linked.
  • Poor breathing can lead to sleep problems and high blood pressure.
  • 5 breaths per resting minute is a parameter for good health.

So, focus on breathing in a natural, calm way to achieve optimal health.

Stay Healthy !  Stay Happy !

Abandoned Warehouse and The Chosen One

Nearing the end of our day trip to Mahapalipuram- a coastal town near Chennai; my friends Victor, Nick, Steve, Joel and I decided to stop at a roadside stall for a cup of steaming hot coffee.

The trip had been amazing. We enjoyed to the fullest and were tired to the bones, now just wanting to get back to our college hostel and crash on our beds. So, before we reached our hostel, we decided to stop for coffee in order to refresh ourselves a bit. I had been driving for long and was quite tired. I really needed that cuppa.

Soon, we restarted our journey back. The sky was getting heavily laden with clouds. This being the monsoon season, rains were a common occurrence in the evenings, so the dark clouds hardly bothered any of us.

It started raining heavily at the time of dusk. Just then, the car engine started making weird noises and I  found out that we were low on fuel. Now, this was something unexpected and worrisome.

It stopped right near a broken down building in the middle of no-where. All our efforts to restart it and at least drag it to the nearby repair shop proved futile.

We looked around to find some shelter and save ourselves from the heavy down pour. At some distance we found a building which looked like a warehouse. We decided to take rest and spend our night there before we went in search of a mechanic to repair our car, the next morning.

We took our belongings out of the car and hurried towards the warehouse. The lights inside the spacious hall were on, but no one responded when we rang the door bell. Just then, Joel gave a little push to the door and it sprang wide open.

Victor and Joel barged inside immediately without waiting for anyone’s permission, in order to escape from the heavy rain, that was now hurting on our skin like stones. They thought it was the perfect place to take shelter and spend the night. I was too tired to retaliate and dropped down like a dead mice on a near by mattress which lay spread on the floor .

I don’t remember when I dozed off to sleep, but I woke with a start. I was sweating profusely. The atmosphere in the warehouse felt miserably cold. When i looked around i found i was all alone in the big hall.

“Where are the others?” I wondered. “Might be searching around for something to eat, hungry fools” I chuckled to myself.

The eerie silence was broken by a deafening scream from the far end of the warehouse. Victor came rushing towards me and switched on  his powerful emergency flashlight. It was enough to flood most of the parts of the warehouse with light.

“What happened? Are you okay?” Victor asked. “Yeah I’m okay” I said, rising up.

“Then why did you scream?”

“No, it wasn’t me. Must have been someone else.” Victor’s face turned pale.

“Where are the others?” I asked

“Long story. It was Joel who saw” a weird shadow” peeking through the window first. Joel thought that the person might be the owner of this place and could help us in getting some thing for dinner. So, he went in search of the person but didn’t return after a long time. That got us worried.

Tensed, we decided to go and search for Joel. We split into two groups. We thought one would stay here and one would go in search of Joel. It has been a long time since Nick and Steve have gone in search of Joel. While they were gone, I saw that shadow again. I switched the light on and saw nothing. That’s when I noticed Joel’s shoe near the entrance……” Victor stopped for a break.

“And as i moved towards the shoe, I saw bright lights on the far side in the direction where Steve and Nick went. Just to snuff out the chances of grabbing someone’s unwanted attention, I switched the light off.”

Victor stood up at this point. “I decided to stand guard…. That’s when I heard the deafening scream.”

Suddenly, the mighty flashlight started flickering and went out. “But I wasn’t the one who screamed”

“Then who on earth screamed?”

We didn’t move at all. We didn’t even make a single sound. Then slowly we saw Nick and Steve get closer to the warehouse hall. Slowly, Victor’s flashlight came back to life. Victor explained everything to Nick and Steve while I scanned the warehouse with his flashlight.

“You know what? I think we should check that little hut where you saw those  bright lights.” Nick said.

Victor was not pleased with the idea “Are you out of your mind?”

“Do you have a better idea?” I interrupted.

We slowly crept towards the hut and opened the door. We were in for a surprise. The hut only had a door, it didn’t have a roof or other walls. Something gigantic which looked like a big machine was safely kept there, hidden under empty boxes and barrels. It had all sorts of weird machinery and lights in it.

“Hands up Homo sapiens” a voice said behind us.” Oh! so these folks were the origins of the mysterious shadows”, i wondered aloud. The aliens had been occupying the desolated abandoned warehouse. That gigantic machine was their spaceship.

“Help us get out of here. Do not dare to stop us. We don’t mean any harm to you.” The  two aliens said.

“What do you want?” I asked, both astonished and worried.

“We need your help, we have run out of fuel. Can we take it from your car? said one of the aliens.

“But how can such a small amount of fuel as available in our car be useful for your big spaceship to fly you back to your planet” I inquired.

“Oh! no worries there! our spaceship is based on an advanced mechanism and is thus very fuel efficient” answered both the aliens in unison.

One of the aliens charged his gun and aimed at us. Due to some force, we were not able to move at all. He fired. It was something like a camera flash. All others dropped down and started snoring.

Just then, I noticed Joel in the same condition, lying on a bench nearby. So, that must have Joel who had screamed earlier, probably when he was shot at by alien’s sleep inducing gun.

On seeing me standing, the other alien muttered something to his buddy. They discussed something for a while and then collected the fuel from our car, gathered their supplies and loaded the spaceship.

“Your friends will be fine. Trust us. Don’t tell about us to anyone and  YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE.” saying this he sat on the other seat and THREW A BOX AT ME.

“SOURCE OF UNLIMITED MENTAL ENERGY,  Pretty outdated for us, but really novel for you Homo sapiens”, said that alien.

The other alien again muttered something “Alas! My friend not trusting you.” saying this the other alien fired the same gun at me, but surprisingly, I didn’t get knocked out like others.

The spaceship’s huge engines revved up and I saw them take off for the return journey to their planet.

Let’s Have A Gala Time With Colors !

                   SHOP SELLING HOLI COLORS

India, a land of rich culture and diverse heritage has many festivals. Holi ! the colorful festival of fun and joy has been one of my favorite out of the dozens we Indians celebrate. The mere thought of this festival fills me with excitement and enthusiasm.

I have always associated Holi with a time of great festivity, joy and love. Traditionally, during Holi, even enemies, turn into friends and forget any past grudges or hatred. This is the true essence of the festival. The colors spread their cheer all around, filling each corner with happiness and joy. Colors are definitely the main attraction and highlight of Holi; making it so popular with kids, irrespective of religion, caste, social status, or economic background.

Colors make for some of the strongest and fondest association in our brain. They can change even our moods. Colors evoke different emotions and responses ; eg: Yellow for comfort, Blue for trust, red for energy; and when they are all combined together as in Holi, they denote the strongest emotions of love and happiness.

Soon, it will be time to celebrate the fun filled Holi again, with colorful gulal and balloons, delicious gujiyas, and the cool thandai.

The very word Holi evokes such fond memories of fun, laughter and reunions . As a child, I literally used to start counting the days for Holi as soon as month of March began. Growing up, we would eagerly look forward to the colors, water-guns, balloons and off course the delicacies that were prepared on holi.

Having spent an almost nomadic childhood with frequent transfers to different parts of India, I have celebrated Holi in different styles, unique to each region.  When I look back and revive the experiences of my childhood  Holi celebrations, my most precious memory is of Holi spent in ‘Aligarh’ – a city in North India.

Holi was celebrated in its complete form and in its full glory in Aligarh,  with everyone participating with great enthusiasm and joy. What made Holi even more special is this city was the ‘true spirit of holi’ that promoted goodwill, and unity.

Holi preparations started almost a week in advance. The most interesting part was the preparation of herbal colors in each home, to be used for playing holi. No one used chemical colors as according to religious tradition, only herbal colors were allowed.

To prepare the color, dried Palash or Tesu flowers (flame of the forest)  were soaked in water for about two days, then strained to get a dark orange concentrate of herbal color. Later, this was diluted for use on the day of  Holi.

This color was completely natural and thus completely safe not just for our skin, hair and eyes, but also for the environment. The wonderful smell of the Palash flower seeped into the color and when this was sprayed on each other during Holi celebrations, it imparted a nice, soothing fragrance to the whole atmosphere.

The festival started the night before the actual’ Holi’ with Holika Dahan (Bonfire) being lit in an open ground of the colony I lived in. It signifies the’ victory of good over evil’. The legend of Haranyakashyap and Prahlad ( in which Prahlad tolerates all the torture of haranyakashyap but does not give up his path of truth), helps to strengthen our belief in righteousness and honesty.

People gathered around the bonfire and roasted the new wheat stems in the pious holi fire and later these grains were offered to each other as a token of welcoming the new harvest of crop and thanking mother nature for her abundance.

We kids waited for the next morning with great anticipation. Often, we were not able to sleep due to over-excitement. We would irritate the younger siblings and cousins by drawing mustache on their face using kajal (black eye liner). #BuraNaMaanoHoliHai  (All mischief is allowed on Holi)

The next morning we woke up early to welcome the ‘carnival of colors’. We had a quick breakfast so that we could hurry and start playing with colors. But elders allowed us to venture out of the house only after coconut oil had been applied all over our skin and hair. This was to prevent color getting soaked in skin; thus helping in their easy removal after holi. The coconut oil also acted as a natural block to the sun rays and as a natural moisturizer for the hair.

Once we were out of the house, it was a non-stop  merry making  and fun of  throwing buckets full of color on each other, smearing each others’ cheeks with color or  chasing each other with water guns in our hand.

As we moved from one friend’s house to another’s, we were welcomed with plates full of delicacies, which helped us in regaining our strength before we ran away on our next adventure.

As I pen down my thoughts; one interesting incidence comes to my mind- My Maths teacher was quite strict and she lived in the same colony where I stayed. I would always try my best to avoid her because of the risk of getting reprimanded for something or the other. But on Holi, I would gather all my courage and visit her home as i couldn’t resist a chance to pour color on her and with our color smeared unrecognizable faces, she could never make out who was who😄.  Also, the tasty items ma’am offered us were very delicious and different from the other houses as she was from South India and her recipes were unique to that region.

There were some Nigerian and Palestinian students in our neighborhood. They were studying in the Aligarh Muslim University nearby. On Holi, even they were not spared from spray of colors. Initially, they were a bit apprehensive of playing Holi, because they had never played it before, but after getting soaked for the first time, they were unstoppable. They played with great enthusiasm and enjoyed a lot.  They loved to dance on the Dhol (drums)Beats, which is an integral part of the Holi revelry and relished the goodies that were served.

Most of them were from Muslim or Christian backgrounds, but there was complete bonhomie amongst everyone without any differences. We all enjoyed to the fullest. The festival of Holi united us all. My friends who still stay in that colony, tell me, this is still the norm there.

I wonder why media is always full of stories of hatred and differences instead of focusing on such examples of togetherness and universal brotherhood.

Time may have glided by, but the beauty of these memorable experience still lingers on.

Today, though Holi has evolved into  a new avatar, the spirit of the festival remains the same- one of joy and of rejoicing the love we have all around us.Ultimately, the joy of holi pervades our daily lives. That’s what makes it so magical !

As we get ready to ring in the festival of joy- Holi, let us pledge to spread the happiness and love all around and imbibe the positive virtues by deciding to burn our negatives traits in the holi fire.

Let us wash away all differences, end conflicts, forget and forgive, to repair broken relationships. It is the festive day to rid oneself of past errors and begin anew.

This Holi, let us shower each other with love and celebrate life joyfully !

Wish you all a very happy and joyous holi 😍

P.S. Water is precious. Pls play dry holi , in order to save water as the world is facing water crisis.

What Is Meditation ?

The word Meditation, is formed from two Latin words:

meditari ( to think, to dwell upon, to exercise the mind)

mederi ( to heal)

There are several definitions given for meditation and what it is. Here i will write based on my personal understanding and experience of practicing it.

Generally, it is considered that meditation is based on worshiping or prayer. It is not so!

Meditation to me is awareness. Meditation means to shift our awareness inwards, to explore, observe and communicate with our true inner self. It is turning inwards to free yourself from the chaos and distraction of the external world and constant chatter of your own brain.

Meditation is a technique to attain a state of consciousness, where the mind is free of scattered thoughts and their repeated patterns. In such a state, all the activity of the brain is reduced to one.

While meditating, when some thoughts come to your mind, don’t focus on them, don’t react to them, just observe them i.e. just be a Witness  and let them pass, let go.

Meditation is a means of transforming the mind. With regular practice of proper techniques, the consciousness can be expanded to a great extent and you can easily reach state of deep meditation.

There are numerous benefits of meditation which have been proven by scientific studies. Here i will list some major ones:

  1. Enhances emotional well being- one learns to be more calm, less anxious and fearful. Meditation also helps in decreasing depression.

2. Enriches your Soul, by guiding us towards our true essential nature of happiness, love and joy

3. Improved concentration levels

4. Attainment of Enlightenment or Supreme Bliss.

5. Reduction in stress level.

6. Improved general health and increased energy level, leading to more efficiency.

7. Improved immune system.

Meditation techniques can be classified broadly under these five categories:

1. Concentration Meditation

2. Mindfulness Meditation

3. Reflective Meditation

4. Heart-centered Meditation

5. Creative Meditation

In my next post i will elaborate on different types of meditation.

Overcome The Setbacks !

We always get into something thinking it to be the best. Later, if we get into trouble or if the outcome is not according to our anticipated success or fulfillment, we feel crushed with regret.

We keep thinking and brooding about the negative instance in form of mistake for a long time. It even pops up in our mind without invitation to create unwanted ripples time and again. We feel helpless and hopeless. We seem to be lost on our way to the planned destination. These flashbacks to the experience, traumatise us often in the quietness of late hour.

Why is it so?

The reason could be our attachment to the ego and its inconsequential desires. Our ego feels good when it’s desires are getting fulfilled. When this does not happen, it tends to deviate towards sadness and depression. We get disappointed and regret our decisions. Our mental web of thoughts traps us and consumes us.

Also, our mind keeps going back to what has hurt our self-esteem. Certain negative experiences drain us emotionally by affecting us mentally and physically. We all have situations that go wrong. Setbacks or mistakes are inevitable in everyone’s life. Life does not always turn up the way we expect. But it is sheer  ignorance to slip into remorse again and again. As someone has rightly said “Worry is a misuse of power of imagination”.

How do we take ourselves forward by forgetting the mistakes or setbacks?

The right way would be to see things in a positive light. Realize that mistakes are part and parcel of life. Every mistake is an experience which come to teach us a lesson. At the moment, it might seem to be most disappointing and regretful but over the course of time it imparts the most valuable lesson. It might turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to us. We should learn from errors of judgement. If we fail, we can always try again in a much better way.

Be objective to the real situation. Retrain your mind to focus on the best that has come out of the situation. Chose the thoughts with awareness to meet our need of healthy living. Our brain needs help to defeat the negative inner chatter. By maintaining a journal of our negative thoughts, we can find out what triggers them. Stop negative self-talk as soon as it starts.

Try not to over-exaggerate the feeling of sadness. Consider it just a feeling like any other. Stop wallowing in self pity.  Thoughts are not always facts; they can be just figments of our over active imagination and could be way far from reality at times. The more you focus on the negative thoughts, the more power you give them.

Practice forgiveness and gratitude to be really positive. Forgive yourself for not being perfect. We are human, not God. Forgive others, to maintain the peace of your mind. Let past remain in the past. Don’t let it control your present or future. Stop overthinking. What’s done is done! Life goes on.

Believe, you can do better in the future. Turn setbacks into fuel for self growth.

Hope Shines for My Dream Job!

Daily prompt : MONEY FOR NOTHING

If you’re like most of us, you need to earn money by working for a living. Describe your ultimate job. If you’re in your dream job, tell us all about it — what is it that you love? What fulfills you? If you’re not in your dream job, describe for us what your ultimate job would be.

The mere thought of my dream job fills my heart with sublime joy. Not that i don’t like my current job as a faculty at a management institute but at times my mind wanders to the fantasy land of day dreaming. In this magical world, i have long nurtured a dream of starting a wellness centre-” THE WELLNESS DEN” (named den-because i am a leo😊 )

This Wellness Den would be like a sanctuary to provide succour and respite to the harried souls battered by daily travails and trials. The focus would be on HEALTH in all its forms: physical, mental, psychological and spiritual.

The centre will have some of the best things one needs to live a wholesome life to achieve holistic health, like-organic vegetable counter, wonderful collection of books and music albums, a counter of fresh beautiful flowers and bouquets in assortment of colors, a counter for home made organic nutritious chocolates (i love making chocolates) and also a Healing Space.

This would be the place where any troubled, tired individual can cruise in to find solace and help. They’ll be able to soothe their eyes with soul-refreshing flowers, calm their agitated mind with inspiring books and music and also indulge their taste buds to uplift their mood with heavenly chocolates.

To heal their physical and psychological ailments, i would use my Pranic Healing skills to their best advantage. I will teach them meditations to help them find inner tranquility. I have always wanted to heal and cure people.

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, Live the life you have imagined”.

~Henry David Thoreau.

There was a time when i aspired to be a medical doctor, and for this i studied biological sciences till my graduation level. But over course of time i realised that the surgery aspect of medical course was something i would never be able to handle.( i can’t even look at an empty syringe for long). Hence i shifted towards management education. Still that inherent desire to heal didnot fade away and was residing within me. So i decided to learn Pranic Healing. I really feel empowered with the knowledge i have gained and i want to use it to alleviate the suffering of others.

In my little palace of serenity- The Wellness Den, i’ll  find my moments of joy by WRITING(something which is like oxygen to me) in my leisure time. I’ll be able to write at my own pace without a worry in my mind about the clock ticking away. And with so much bliss and happiness around, i think “writer’s block ” will not dare to stare at me even from afar. Maybe a time will come when i will spend my days writing awesome books and healing people.

Off course, i would charge a fees for the services in the centre to earn my daily bread and butter but it won’t be too high.I follow a simple basic lifestyle so even an average income will suffice. I don’t have any ambition for great luxuries in life. i just want to live a simple, serene life close to nature. My real gain from this endeavour would be the contentment i shall receive by being a source of solace and help to those in need, to see sense of relief and joy on the faces of those i heal.

Do i wish i had a magic wand to materialise this dream of mine as soon as possible ?

Yes sure, i do!  but things don’t manifest so fast in the real world. But the future holds endless possibilities. I hope my dream of starting and managing The Wellness Den turns into a reality sooner than later. Maybe a day will dawn when i will get to work daily as i dream of.

I am in total love with this idea and have cherished it for long. Even before this dream has been realised, it provides me immense joy and pleasure just to think about it.”I can escape  into this surreal place of bliss whenever i want”!

Vibrant Evening Sky

Photo challenge :

This week, share a photo of something vibrant. Vivid colors, a lively portrait, or perhaps a delightfully colorful landscape, if you’re in a warmer climate. Let’s wash the web with a rainbow of colors to keep the winter gloom at bay.

Enchanting beauty of nature !  vibrant it is…

I captured this shot from my terrace one evening, just before sunset.
